*This system is designed to circulate and cannot be hooked up to an outdoor spigot.

Poultry water system includes:

🐓 4-foot food safe PVC waterbar (predrilled)

🐓 Four leak-free horizontal nipples

🐓 12V water circulation pump with DC power supply adapter**

#2 Square Bit Driver ¼” required for installation.

Keep your poultry water clean and fresh with the Carolina Coops circulating poultry watering system for your chicken coop. Our 4’ food-safe PVC waterbar has four horizontal nipples that won’t drip or leak, keeping the run dry. The nipples have superior spring action so little force is needed to trigger the water, making it easy to access for smaller, younger chickens.

Just hook it up to a rain barrel or other water container and you’re ready to give your flock constant access to clean, fresh drinking water. The pump circulates the water so you can easily add a heating element so water won’t freeze in the winter. Add ice to your water container, and the pump circulates cool, clean water for your flock in the summertime.

Stop hauling water or changing out dirty water and keep your chickens engaged with our poultry water system.

POULTRY WATER SYSTEM FAQ

FIND ANSWERS TO OUR MOST COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you have to hook this up to a rain barrel?

No, you can hook this system up to any large container that can hold water and where you can drill openings for the two hoses.

Do you need electricity to use this system?

Yes. The pump requires electricity to circulate the water. It is ideal to have an electrical outlet as close as possible to the system.

How do I get my chickens to use this water bar?

Chickens are naturally curious creatures. We're told they are attracted to red, which is why the nipples are red. You can show them the water coming from the nipples by holding the nipples down and letting the water stream out. Once one chicken gets the idea, the rest will follow. Remove other water sources when you feel confident they know there is water from the water bar.

How many chickens can use this poultry water system?

Since chickens don't all drink at the same time, we advise about 6 chickens per nipple, so this system can easily accommodate 24 chickens.

What does circulating the water do?

By circulating the water, it keeps the water from becoming stagnant, so your flock has clean, fresh drinking water. In the hot months, circulating the water is crucial as the water sitting in the water bar will get warm. Circulating the water keeps it from getting too warm for the chickens in the heat. Also, by adding a few add-ons, circulating the water will help it from freezing in the winter. (see next FAQ)

Will this system keep the water from freezing in the winter?

No. If the temperatures fall below freezing the water bar will crack. Circulating the water definitely helps it from freezing, but the water will freeze in the barrel. There are a couple of add-ons that work with this system to keep it from freezing. One is a submersible water tank heater and the other is a thermostatic switch, which will power on the pump when it gets cold and will shut it off when the temps rise. If this is hooked up properly, your system will not freeze. (the heater has its own internal thermostat, so only the pump needs to be plugged into the thermostatic switch)

Does this system have to circulate all the time?

No. If the temperatures are moderate, you don't have to circulate the water. If the temperatures are extremely hot, we suggest putting bags of ice in your rain barrel or container and circulating the water to keep it cool for your flock. You can also buy a timer that will have your water circulate only during the hottest times of the day.

What does NSF certified mean?

The PVC we use for the water bar is food-safe NSF certified. For consumers, NSF certification means a product or service is safe and sanitary. They can rest assured that the company has met strict standards and that consumers are safe when they use any NSF-certified product.

How high should I mount the water bar?

We recommend between head and chest level of your chickens. Chickens will put their heads back when they drink from the nipples. If you have bantams mixed in your standard-sized flock, you can put a rock, cinderblock, or step for them to use the water bar.
PRO TIP: The pump side of the water bar should be slightly lower to prevent air pockets.

What should I do if one of the nipples starts leaking?

First press the nipple a few times to see if it is still leaking. If it is, then shut off the water to the water bar, unscrew the nipple and wash it out. Sometimes debris gets in there that will keep the trigger slightly open. That usually does the trick. Then screw it back it. (Don't overtighten). See video below for more info.

Does this poultry water system require any maintenance?

We are huge fans of a set-it-and-forget-it system, which this pretty much is. We do recommend emptying the rain barrel or container in the spring and fall and cleaning it out. Then add fresh water to the system.

Can ducks use this poultry water system?

Yes. This system is great for chickens, ducks, baby chicks (after two weeks old), quail, and turkeys.
Ducks do need to be able to dunk their heads, so they must have another water source, but they will drink from the water bar.
